The Central Library of Padmavani Arts and Science College for Women caters to the needs of the faculty members, students, staff, and research scholars. The library with its state-of-the-art building, digital resources, and other allied resources is emerging as one of the best institutional libraries in the Salem District. The central library possesses more than 24000 books under 13000+ titles, 1075 reference books, more than 5000 e-books, 84 National & International Journals & e-journals, 2054 digital databases, and more than 1000 CD’/DVD’s. The central library is a member of the INFLIBNET N-LIST Programme. It has been subscribing to DELNET, a world-famous Digital Database.

The library is housed in an exclusive wing in the 2nd floor of Mother Teresa Block of the College. Library activities are fully automated, including barcoded ID cards. Separate Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) terminals have been provided to enable the students have updated information on resources and facilitate their searching process. Twenty computers with high speed internet are housed in the library, providing DELNET and INFLIBNET access to students, staff and research scholars.

RULES AND REGULATIONS:

General Rules

  • All the users should maintain strict silence, decorum and discipline must be maintained inside the library. Usage of Mobile Phone prohibited.
  • Personal belongings are not allowed inside the Library and all such items are to be kept in the designated place of the library. The user is advised not to keep valuable items and the Library staff will not be responsible for the loss of any personal belongings of users.
  • Documents taken out of the shelves must be left on the reading table. Replacing the books on shelves is not encouraged as they may get misplaced. A misplaced book is like a lost book.
  • A non-member can use the library material on the premises with the permission of the Librarian.
  • Readers should not mark, underline, write, tear pages or otherwise damage the library documents.
  • Newspapers, magazines, and journals must be read-only in the library on specific tables and should not be taken to any other reading areas.
  • No library material can be taken out of the library without the permission of the librarian.
  • Use of the computers kept inside the library is allowed for accessing library catalogue, e-journals, e-books and academic databases only.
  • Anyone who violates the rules and regulations of the library would be liable to lose the library membership and be debarred from using the library facilities.

ISSUE OF BOOKS:

  • Always carry the Identity card and must be produced whenever asked for.ID card is mandatory for borrowing books.
  • Library cards are not transferable.
  • Handle the Library book with utmost care and a borrower shall remain responsible for the book issued until it is returned.
  • Users who lose the library books are liable to replace them with its latest edition. If the book is part of a set or series, they may be called upon to replace the whole set or series. In case of a lost book is untraceable in the market or out of print, the college reserves the right to decide appropriate penalty.
  • Students are responsible for the book taken in the library; they should check the condition of books. In case of any damage, it should be reported to the librarian in writing immediately.
  • Books will not be issued for those who are having overdue items.
  • Reference Books, Dictionary, Encyclopaedia, Handbooks, Journals and magazines, Year Books and Dissertations are only for reference use within the Library premise.
  • All new arrivals of books will be displayed in the separate rack at the entrance for one week; users may reserve such books and will not be issued during that period
  • The Librarian reserves the right to recall items issued at any time, even before the due date.
  • All items need to be returned to the Library, for Physical Verification once a year irrespective of the date of issue and category of users. The date of Physical verification will be announced 2 weeks in advance.

Accessing E-Resources through N-LIST: The steps given below clearly explain the systematic process to access e-resources through N-LIST Programme:

1. Login

Launch the Internet Browser (Internet Explorer or Google Chrome or Firefox or Opera) and Log on to http://nlist.inflibnet.ac.in. Enter Your Username and Password in text entry box and click on Login. If you do not have username and password, please contact the librarian to register with N-LIST and obtain username and password. On successful Log-in, a list of e-resources subscribed through NLIST Programme will be displayed. 2 Access E-resources Click on the desired e-resource to reach out to the full-text e-resource on publisher’s website. For further help in search, browse or navigate articles / book chapters through publisher’s website, Click on User Guide / Help from navigation bar and download user manual and tutorials. 3. Searching Journals Titles Covered Under N-LIST Programme Click on “Search” option on navigation bar of N-LIST Web Site to search journals covered under the N-LIST Programme. Enter name of journal or a subject term in text entry box and click on “Go”. Search results will be displayed with link to full-text of journal(s) on publisher’s Web site. DELNET: DELNET was started at the India International Centre Library in January 1988 and was registered as a society in 1992. It was initially supported by the National Information System for Science and Technology (NISSAT), Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India. It was subsequently supported by the National Informatics Centre, Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India. DELNET has been established with the prime objective of promoting resource sharing among the libraries through the development of a network of libraries. It aims to collect, store, and disseminate information besides offering computerized services to users, to coordinate efforts for suitable collection development and also to reduce unnecessary duplication wherever possible.
